Concrete contractor services in Tiburon, CA
Price mostly turns on the size, how much digging and base work the ground needs, and the finish. Timing turns on any permit and on curing, the days new concrete needs to harden. Your free written estimate shows what's included.
Want room for a table and grill? We build patios sized to how you'll use the space, with a broom finish, a brushed texture that grips wet feet.
Stamped concrete is patterned and colored while it's still soft, so a patio, walk or pool deck looks like stone, brick or slate.
We build front walks, garden paths and side paths with control joints, shallow cuts that give cracking a straight place to go instead of across the middle.
Cracked or sinking garage floor? We break out the old slab, firm up the ground beneath it and pour a new floor that's flat, smooth and easy to sweep.
Decorative concrete covers color, exposed stone and special finishes on walks, patios and entries, for homeowners who want the strength of concrete with a look that suits the house.
A concrete retaining wall holds back a slope and gives you flat ground. We set it on a footing with drainage behind so trapped water doesn't push it over.
Need a concrete floor for a basement, workshop or addition? We pack the subgrade, the soil the slab sits on, then pour and trowel it smooth.
We pour pool decks with a textured top for bare feet and a slope that carries splash water away from the pool, finished plain, stamped or colored.
We form and pour front and back steps with even heights from one step to the next, set on a footing so they don't pull away from the house.
A slab foundation is a single poured base that a new garage, addition or cottage sits on, with rebar, steel bars that hold the slab together, set inside.
Building an addition or replacing an old foundation? We dig, form and pour the footings and walls the house will stand on, after the plans and permit are in place.
We build concrete parking areas for apartment buildings, shops and churches, with slabs thick enough for daily traffic and drainage planned before anything is poured.
What's a footing? It's the wide concrete base under a wall, deck post or addition that spreads its weight into firm soil, and we pour them to the plans.
Doors sticking or floors sloping toward one corner? We look at what's under the house, then lift and support a settled foundation to bring it back toward level.
Need a new opening, a trench for a pipe or a cracked section taken out? We saw-cut concrete cleanly so we remove only what has to go.
How I came to pour concrete in Tiburon
I started Sterling Stone Tiburon Concrete in Tiburon in 2020. I taught myself concrete on small jobs around my own place, then learned the rest working next to people who'd been at it for years. I still come out to look at each job myself, and I'm on site with our crew while the work gets done, so the person you meet first is the person on your job.
What I care about most is the part you can't see once the concrete is down, which is the ground underneath and where the water goes. A base that's dug out and packed, instead of raked level, is often the first thing people want to trim because it's hidden on day one. I'd rather spend there and keep the finish simple, since a fancy top on soft ground still settles.
We're known for taking the time to explain what we're doing and why before anything gets poured, and I'd rather answer a question twice before the pour than leave you wondering later. Your estimate is written in plain words and lists what's included, so you can set it beside other bids. You can read more about how we work or send us a message about your project.
What Tiburon's permit rules mean for your job
Tiburon sets its own permit rules, and they shape a concrete job before any digging starts. Here's what usually comes up on driveways, walls and slabs around the peninsula.
Permits for walls and drainage
The Town of Tiburon asks for some permits other California cities may not, and it points to the peninsula's ground, slopes and weather as the reason. Every wall and retaining wall needs a building permit, taller walls also go through design review, and drainage work needs a permit with few exceptions. The list doesn't name driveways or patios, so we ask the Building Division about yours.
A Tiburon business license
Anyone coming into Tiburon to work needs a city business license, even a contractor based somewhere else. On a job with a building permit, the contractor's license comes with that permit, while a contractor on work with no building permit needs a separate one. It's a fair question to ask anyone bidding your job.
Inspections before the pour
The city wants inspections requested and passed before work gets covered, which on a concrete job usually means before the pour hides the base and steel. Another inspection has to pass at the end, before the permit expires. We build those visits into the schedule, so the pour waits for the inspector instead of the other way around.

Questions homeowners ask about concrete in Tiburon
How much does a new concrete driveway cost in Tiburon?
The cost depends on your site, so the real number comes from a free on-site estimate. Size, any old concrete to break out, how much the ground needs dug out and packed, and the finish you choose all move it. Our driveway page explains more, and your written estimate spells out what's included.
How long before I can drive on a new concrete driveway?
You'll be walking on it well before you can drive on it, and I'll give you both waits for your job when we finish. Concrete keeps curing, gaining strength slowly, for days after the pour, and the weather changes how fast. We plan around how you'll get in and out while the driveway is off-limits.
Will my new concrete slab crack like the old one?
Concrete can still crack, but most of the cracking we see on old slabs comes from a raked base, water running the wrong way, or joints cut late or skipped. We dig out and pack the base, check where the water runs and cut control joints on time, so any crack has a planned place to go.
Do I need a permit to redo the part of my driveway by the street in Tiburon?
If the work reaches into the public right-of-way, you need an Encroachment Permit from the Department of Public Works. Where your driveway meets the street, part of it may sit in that right-of-way, and that permit is separate from any building permit. We find out where the line falls on your lot before we plan the job.
What happens if concrete work starts without a permit in Tiburon?
The city can issue a Stop Work Order on work that needed a building permit and started without one. The penalty is $250 on minor projects valued under $5,000 and rises to $1,000 plus four times the permit fee on projects valued over $50,000. That's why we wait for any permit to be in hand before we start.
How should I get ready for a concrete estimate visit?
You don't need to do much beyond thinking about how you'll use the space and where water collects when it rains. If you have a survey, old plans or a letter from the city, set it out. I'll measure, look at the ground, ask my questions and answer yours, then write the estimate.
